Once again the postal serivice has let me down. I had sent out a large number of tubes the other day. I had made a custom label with the TO on top and the FROM on bottom and I had to readdress them all because the post office is to dumb to read those two words. Last night I had gotten an e-mail that one order had been received smashed. I know the tubes are just cardboard, but it's pretty hard to smash one of those tubes unless you put a lot of weight on top of it. Because of this, any new order will have the option of putting additional insurance on their order. If you don't want the insurance, I can't be held responsible for the post office's mess ups. I'm sorry that it has come to this.

MS Walk Poster

Yet another installment to my portfolio class screen prints. This one is for the MS walk. I forgot to take a picture of the orange layer. The idea is that everyone is a cohesive group walking for a cure, even though there are different teams to raise money. The individuals with brains and spinal cords are supposed to be MS survivors, seeing as it attacks the central nervous system I thought that would be the most appropriate and telling sign of them. Join the movement is the MS walk slogan, but I added the be a part of the group line to emphasize the message of my poster. The dimensions are 26"x11 1/8".

Well, it's done. It took me way too long to get my first print finished. It didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but I guess it turned out as well as i expected it to. Afterall, it was my frist print. I still have to go through them and figure out how many I will sell. I'm not too happy with the registration from the blue layer so I'm not sure how many are "sellable". I'm either going to have to have a really low edition or sell them for really cheap. Either way, I don't see myself makine very much money off of this. Maybe the next one will go better. I guess all will be ok as long as I make enough money off of this one to keep myself going for another print. I'm still brain storming ideas. I am doing another print real soon for my Astronomy class final. I don't think many people will find it very exciting so I don't think I'll make too many. I have a few ideas in the works for the next project. Keep your eyes peeled for its debut. In the mean time, check back soon for information on buying a Vulpes vulpes print. It should be for sale in less then a week.

I just finished pulling my logo on the back of the prints. I figured I'd get that out of the way while I wait to do the last layer. I got my screen, I'm just waiting to get something big enough to put it in so the emulsion can dry out of the light. I should have that by mid week and the print will be finished soon after. Also I have another print that I will be starting soon. It originated as a project for my astronomy class, but it will be for sale as well. I dunno how successful it will be, but I will print it none the less. After all these things don't have to seel immediately, I just wish that they would. On a side not I have decided that ANYONE that can get me three sales can get a print for free (while supplies last). I need to get my name out there and I can't see a better way then telling 5 people and then they go on to tell 5 more... (that whole mantra).

Here she is, layer 3. For anyone keeping up with the print, I'm sure you weren't expecting another layer this soon. I'm a little nervous to see how the next layer will line up. The registration on this one was hard because I only had the foxes front legs and ears to line it up with so it's going to be close. The rest of it only has to be off a degree for things to not line up perfectly, but I'm sure it won't be too bad on most of them. The next layer won't go on for a little bit. I have to order a larger screen. I'll probably try to do that tomorrow. It may take a couple weeks before I get it. I might have to see about borrowing one. After that I just have to print my logo on the back and they will be available to purchase. I'll probably print my logo while I wait for the new screen to come in.

So the Ulano QTX emulsion was a little more user friendly then the LX660. I did an exposure test up to 20mins on the QTX and it seemed a little shakey. I only had one coated screen left so I had to make it count, so I exposed it for 30mins and it worked like a charm. These prints aren't coming out the best, but after all it is my frist print. I'm looking forward to the 3rd layer pulling as smoothly as this last one did. So once again I'm going to put my foot in my mouth and say that hopefully soon these will be done! Hooray to success. The next layer will be the fox. It is going to be blue with a hint of white in it, and lastly the outlines will be dark blue.

In other news....
....I might be starting another print soon. It's for a school project, so if I decide to go this root, it will be astronomy themed. I guess keep your eyes peeled for that.

Trouble shooting

So my previous goal of finishing off the print in about 2 weeks was unattainable. I was running into a lot of trouble cleaning out my screen. I asked a few people and they told me I needed to use a pressure hose. Not having one, I went to a car wash. That didn't work. I took them over to Brad's studio and he lent me his pressure hose and helped me out. So they are now finally clean. However Brad told me that it shouldn't be that hard to reclaim my screens. I also told him about my ridiculous exposure time. He told me my emulsion must be crap. I was working with Ulano LX660. I was originally looking for Ulano QTX, which is what he recommended, but I couldn't find it before. So $32 later, I ordered 28oz of QTX. Hopefully after I get that I can finally bang out the rest of this print.

This is the first layer for my first print. It is also the first time I have ever printed. It's been quite an adventure to get it this far, to say the least. Hopefully things will get easier for me from here on out. Hopefully with in the next week or 2 they will be all done.

I changed the name of my studio because there is a movie called the Squid and the Whale and I didn't want people to get them mixed up and also I really don't want to get into any copyrights if that name is copyrighted.
